Canada has made a commitment to net-zero GHG emissions by 2050 and a net-zero electricity grid by 2035. The Ontario Government has now asked the IESO to examine potential pathways to decarbonize the electricity system. Net-zero by 2050 will require a decarbonized and significantly expanded electricity system. Disruptive technologies will also make the future system more decentralized, digitalized and democratized than the one we have today.
This energy transition is already underway, but it will need to proceed at an unprecedented speed and scale to meet our GHG emissions objective. This session will explore the steps being taken today in Ontario to prepare for the electricity system of 2050.
